National gathering of the Alpini

Every year, the Alpini of Italy gather in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites. In 1896, the Nuremberg Mountaineering Society bought the land where the Rifugio Contrin stands today, which after the war was given to the S.A.T (Italian Mountaineering Society), which in 1923 donated it to the National Alpini Association.
The group was created in 1963 by Roberto Dantone, the first president of the ANA (National Alpini Association) Group of Alba di Canazei and of Emilio Brunner.
The desire to be among friends and feel united during important events such as the skiing competition, the pleasure of helping the next person and being ever available under any circumstance, led to the expansion of the group until it included the villages of Canazei, Campitello and Mazzin, creating the Upper Valle di Fassa group.
The 35th edition of this Gathering will take place on the 24th of June 2018. Among the activities planned there is a pilgrimage on the path of peace "Higher and higher, in the Spirit of Peace."
