The origins of the name Alba

The name Alba (Dèlba in the Ladin language) means ‘rocky wall’, which refers to the rocky Dolèda ridge which overlooks the town and is characterised by its light colour. An isolated house used to stand beneath the cliff, called ‘Sot l’èlbes’.

The inhabitants of Alba are called ‘Roc’ since legend has it that in times gone by, being extremely possessive of their properties, they fenced off their properties with wooden fences bound together with woven wicker laces, the famous ‘roc’.
