The Gran festa da d’Istà

The Gran Festa da d’istà is a folk event that is absolutely not to be missed! Every year since 1979, during the last week of August or the first of September, all the Ladin peoples gather in Canazei to celebrate the end of summer together. The celebration originally offered local workers a period of rest and fun at the end of the summer season.

And still today visitors can have a lovely time in the enormous tents erected for the event, where the best groups from Austria, Alto Adige and the Ladin area perform. Four joyful days of listening and dancing to good music and trying the typical local delicacies prepared by the ‘Funnel Cake Group’, a collective of volunteers dedicated to the preparation of this typical dessert.

Tradition has is that the most important moment of the celebrations is the last day, with a big parade through the central streets of Canazei, including bands and folk groups from the four Ladin valleys: Fassa, Gardena, Badia and Livinallongo.
